The Hindenburg
The year is 1936, and the Olympic Games are in full swing in the Nazi Empire of Germany. Despite clear signs of antisemitism and waves of talks to boycott the Games, many countries sent their athletes to compete. This shot taken from the “Hindenburg Zeppelin” – a German airship – shows the Berlin stadium alive with spectators.

The Disaster
The year following the Olympic Games in Nazi Germany, the celebrated “Hindenburg Zeppelin” came crashing down in a spectacular fashion. The airship was supposed to touch down safely in the United States, but after a combination of static electricity and faulty fuel pipes, the ship burst into flames, claiming the lives of 36 people.
