Nadya married Marcos Gutierrez in 1996, the same year she became a licensed psychiatric technician after graduating from Mt. San Antonio College. She also started working at the psychiatric facility called Metropolitan State Hospital in Norwalk, California. Her job was certainly rewarding, but it was not easy and would even prove dangerous for Nadya. In spite of her primary goal of having a family, she also aimed at having a meaningful career, though an unfortunate event happened in her workplace which turned her life into one long roller-coaster ride.

Tragedy Strikes

On September 18th, 1999, a horrific event occurred at the psychiatric facility where Nadya Suleman was working, and she was caught right in the middle. Twenty patients started a riot at the facility, so Nadya immediately tried to intervene. In all the commotion, one female patient turned over a wooden desk but unfortunately, it landed on Nadya’s back and caused the herniated disc injury she has. Even though workers’ compensation provided some assistance and she received $170,000, the money only helped her get on for a while and it actually became the least of her worries.
