Kamdym Pilan is a second-grade student who came home in tears one normal afternoon. His parents noticed something was off and were determined to understand what was troubling their young son. They repeatedly asked him questions until he showed him the feedback written on his homework.
Unhelpful Piece Of Criticism
After looking at it closely, his father Chris saw that it was not a helpful critique of his work whatsoever. He saw it as a personal attack on his son, so there was no way he was going to let it go. His response to this went viral, so let us find out what the teacher said!

Unhelpful Piece Of Criticism
A Regular Kid
Kamdyn was regularly well behaved, especially for being in second grade. He was not overly energetic or have an interest in video games, television, or junk food. That’s why it was shocking to his family when they understood the teacher was giving him rude remarks in school.

A Regular Kid
Something Serious
Chris took a look at his son’s homework and noticed a note written on it. He started to feel concerned about what happened that day. That’s when he began to take the situation more severe and wanted to further examine the matter. What he found was not what he expected.

Something Serious
A Regular School
Young Kamdyn is a second-grader at Valley View Elementary School. While the school itself is not particularly special and just your average public school, Kamdyn has made a reputation as being an overachiever. That’s why his parents were incredibly surprised to learn this news.

A Regular School
Many Complaints
His parents were sure Camden was excelling at school. They were confident in their son, and themselves as parents and had no suspicions of problems at school. Unfortunately, since the beginning of the school year, Chris started to receive complaints about Kamdyn.

Many Complaints
Good At School
Kamdyn was a regular kid but his father always had high standards for him. He saw something special in Kamdyn and believed he was a good student. While other children were complaining about their homework, Kamdyn was excited to complete his assignments and had no issues finishing them.

Good At School
He Couldn’t Just Watch
When Kamdyn entered second-grade things started to change. Chris struggled to watch his son repeatedly fail and he knew something had to be done. He knew there had to be something else going on and he wanted to know what.

He Couldn’t Just Watch
Struggling In School
Kamdyn was not one of those children who were uneducated or uninterested in school. He was smart and his dad paid attention to the gradual decrease in his grades and effort. Chris was confident in his son and did not think it was like him to perform poorly.

Struggling In School
Way Too Harsh
Kamdyn returned home from school one afternoon with tears in his eyes. When his father took a look at his homework he noticed a rude comment written by his teacher Alyssa Rupp Bohenek. The not read “Absolutely pathetic! He answered 13 in 3 minutes! Sad!” Chris felt that this was just cruel.

Way Too Harsh
Ms. Alyssa
Alyssa was working as a teacher for a substantial amount of time and she was known as a difficult teacher. After seeing this note it was quite clear that she and Kamdyn did not particularly get along well.

Ms. Alyssa
His Teacher
Everything Kamdyn did would catch her eye, and every mistake that he made would get a harsh written warning. This negative feedback clearly had an impact on the confidence and self-esteem of this poor child.

Addressing Bad Grades
It is difficult for parents to see or hear that their child is performing badly in school. Regardless, the best way to deal with this is to sort out the problem head-on but dealing with poor grades is a controversial topic.

Addressing Bad Grades
Tough Love
In some cases, spending quality time with your children and working out the assignments is the key to improvement. While others will require extra assistance. Tough love may work with older students, but it usually fails with children of such a young age.

Tough Love
Constructive Criticism Please
Dealing with negative feedback is something most people struggle with. While a few welcome it, many feel uncomfortable accepting criticism. However, we all know that at one point in our life this will happen, but it’s important the way it is presented.

Constructive Criticism Please
A Huge Blow
Criticsm can be extremely painful and difficult in terms of one’s confidence. If it’s so difficult for children to deal with criticism then just imagine how painful it is for a child to receive harsh criticism from someone older than them, especially their teacher!

A Huge Blow
As A Mentor
Being a mentor is a challenging job, thus it is important to be a good role model when taking on this responsibility. Taking on the position as a teacher is not simply about class lectures and lesson plans, there is so much more to it.

As A Mentor
A Leader
Teachers need to be confident in themselves and caring for others because they are the ones who are responsible for making the right impression on their students. Well, it seems like Bohenek was not accurately complying with this role.

A Leader
Not Helpful Whatsoever
It is not out of line that Chris was so infuriated about the comment that was written on his son’s homework. It was unnecessary and out of line. She could have simply given constructive criticism but instead, she verbally assaulted this young boy.

Not Helpful Whatsoever
Only Made Things Worse
Chris knew his son and although he wanted him to improve at school, he was sure that this was not the correct way to make it happen. On the contrary, he was sure it would actually do the opposite.

Only Made Things Worse
A Recurring Problem
After looking more into the situation, it started to become clear that it was only one of many negative comments that Mrs. Bohenek wrote that year. Chris was sure of himself and his decision to shed light on this issue since it was a reoccurring problem.

A Recurring Problem
Far Too Personal
The majority of the comments written were offensive and personal. Chris is a reasonable guy and admits that if he felt the comments were fair then he wouldn’t have gone to such extremes. However, after he learned more he knew he could not let this go and it was time to pay a visit to the teacher.

Far Too Personal
Took To Facebook
In reality, it is not normal for a teacher to call her student pathetic. Chris was positive that no teacher should behave this way and is supposed to a role model for his/her students. If she was trying to help her students, maybe she needed to modify her approach.

Took To Facebook
Payback
Chris was infuriated and decided to take a stand against the teacher. He wanted the support of his community, thus he posted on Facebook to single out this teacher and her poor behavior. He was not the type to sit back and watch someone hurt his son. He felt strongly that she was abusing her power as a teacher.

Payback
His Viral Post
Chris explained in his Facebook post about what happened and even posted the note on his son’s homework. He couldn’t believe how much attraction the post received online. The story went worldwide and everyone wanted to hear about the scandal taking place in his son’s school.

Her Responsibility
It is the teacher’s responsibility to make their students are achieving in school and happy in school. Teaching is a difficult profession but there is a certain etiquette one must have if they choose to go down this career path.

Her Responsibility
The Harsh Comments
It is a lot of pressure to be the person in charge of helping young students reach their full potential, thus Chris did not want to accuse her of doing a bad job. At the same time, he felt her rude comments were unjust and not beneficial in any way. Kamdyn was a curious boy who always loved school and Chris was determined to bring this love for learning back.

The Harsh Comments
How Learning Should Be
Receiving an education is extremely important and one of the fundamental parts of maturing into a well-rounded adult. Learning to function and navigate in life is about acquiring new skills and abilities through different tasks and exercises.

How Learning Should Be
No One Likes Negativity
Learning can also be extremely successful when it is taught originally. This does not include negativity, as it can only interfere with the learning process. Education should be taught in an encouraging and motivating fashion, with necessary constructive criticism. But, being rude will only hinder the learning process.

Launching A Petition
Chris posted his feeling and was planning to leave it there. While he may have moved on, the internet surely did not. Within a few days, another individual created an online petition to fire Alyssa from the elementary school.

Launching A Petition
Rallying Behind Him
Chris was overwhelmed with the number of people backing him and his son. He had no idea that such a post would get people so enraged and mean something to strangers. He was impressed with how many individuals were standing up for young Kamdyn.

Rallying Behind Him
Endangering Her Career
This petition took a casual situation of an angry father to a more severe one. If Alyssa was found guilty and to blame, then there was a chance she was going to be unemployed at any point. Chris was so enraged that he wanted Alyssa to be fired.

Endangering Her Career
The Line Has Been Drawn
He felt after what happened that this was the best outcome for not only his son but all the students in the second grade and future students. He wasn’t typically an angry guy but this was where he was drawing the line.

Teaching How To Learn
When you take on the position as a teacher, it is important to consider the multiple parts involved in the career. While teaching the content is an obvious role, being a motivating and creative teacher is just as relevant.

Teaching How To Learn
Processing Improves
If you can do this then the rest becomes incredibly easy and doable. Learners will benefit from this process when they understand all the parts involved. Spuing negative remarks in certainly not the key to achieving beneficial learning.

The signature received 10,000 signatures after it was posted. While Chris had enough support behind him, Bohenek was slowly receiving her own backing. Teachers began to voice their opinions on the matter and felt she should not get fired for this incident.

Reaction
Kamdyn had feelings of his own and it was time to hear them. When he asked about the situation, Kamdyn expressed how sad, upset, and even mad he was about the comment. The seven-year-old boy felt like it was just a mean thing to do.

Reaction
Seven-Year-Old
Chris went to the local news outlets and said, “You don’t write that on anybody’s paper, let alone a little 7-year-old, second grader’s paper. It said on the top of it that he answered only 13 of them in 3 minutes and that it was absolutely pathetic with a sad face”. Kamdyn admitted that this was so difficult for him.

Seven Year Old
Unprofessional
Chris could go on and on about the issue and was seriously enraged about the entire situation. “I believe what you wrote on his paper was extremely unprofessional and just very rude and she messaged me back and said she was sorry I felt that way,” he explained.

Unprofessional
Punished Not Fired
Everyone was in agreement that what was done was scarring to a young student. However, some felt like her actions deserved to be rebuked but going as far as firing her was too extreme. Only time would tell…

Update
The authority figures in a young child’s life are responsible for molding them into the person that they grow up to be. It is their responsibility to employ the right morals and set a good example. The elementary school decided to further investigate the situation and make sure the outcome was fair and correct. Chris updated his online supporters and said, “Thanks to all the efforts and support of the dedicated people who signed and shared this petition, I’m happy to announce that the teacher in question is currently being investigated by the Valley View school board.”

Update
Superintendent
The school superintendent, Rose Minnity learned about the comments on Kamdyn’s paper and further examined the situation. She started by meeting with the Valley View School District and the teacher and then began a thorough investigation.

What’s Best
Minniti responded to the comments made by the media outlets and said, “As always with everything, we’re going to try to do what’s best for the students and what we need to do for the employee under investigation”. She also added, “It’s a personnel issue and the results of that are not going to be dictated by social media. It’s going to be dictated by the facts and evidence.”

What’s Best
Personnel Issue
All we can hope for is that this school finds justice, especially since people around the world are hoping the teacher gets fired. At that point, Chris managed to gather well over 20,000 signatures and everyone was curious about how the story would play out.

Personnel Issue
Some Blamed Him
Those who were on Alysa’s side began attacking Chris and his parenting techniques. They suggested that he focus more on teaching his child instead of complaining about social media. Wow, how things quickly changed.

Some Blamed Him
Helping With Homework
They also insisted that none of this story would have happened in the first place if Chris would have devoted his time to helping his son with his homework. While Ms. Bohenek did have some support, the majority of people thought she was in the wrong and deserved to be reprimanded.

Training The Teachers
Education is a topic that will forever be debated and talked about. Teachers need constant monitoring and frequent check-ups to make sure they are performing to the best of their ability. They are the ones creating the next generation and the future of the world.

Teaching Styles
Thus, these teachers must be working the best that they can and creating well thought out lesson plans. Student’s grades are a good way to track a teacher’s ability, but also examining his/her teaching style and methodology is equally relevant.

They Need Mentoring
Plenty of cases require teachers to be mentored themselves, however, every class varies and every teacher has their problems and obstacles to overcome. Being a teacher means working through these difficulties and overcoming them.
