The first sign of trouble was that they were nowhere to be found even though it was already 4 o’clock. As she waited, she watched the other families. Lyneth smiled to herself, thinking that she would soon be reunited with her own son. One of the little boys reminded her of Jermaine. This child waved at her, and she waved right back at him. She was starting to get impatient. It was 4:09. Where could they be?

Her heart was beating loudly against her chest. She had a bad feeling about this. Twenty minutes had gone by, but Alan and Jermaine were not there yet. Lyneth was struck by such a strong feeling of anxiety that she fell to the ground and dropped the stuffed lion. She had a gut feeling and raced back to her car. This mother hoped that she was wrong… She dialed 911 and drove off, leaving the toy behind her.
