Zac and Cindy decided to get married at the beach. After all, what could possibly be more romantic than exchanging vows with the sea as your backdrop? They knew that it was going to be a memorable event. However, it turns out that they bit off more than they could chew! There is absolutely no doubt in our mind that not a single persona in attendance would forget what happened on the big day. What made it so remarkable was something that even the couple did not see coming. It goes without saying that this is not your ordinary wedding story!
Outdoor Weddings Can Be Unpredictable
The groom and bride in this story both hail from Alabama. Like many couples in the world, Zac and Cindy Edwards wanted a beach wedding. They knew that it could mean getting married on a windy or rainy day, but this did not stop them from getting what they wanted. Aside from the elements, they knew that nosy onlookers might ruin things for them. Even though these are common considerations, there was no way for them to foresee what actually happened.
You Need To Laugh It Off
There are times when it is best to laugh off your problems. What else can you do when the ring does not fit your finger or the wind blows off your veil? This is supposed to be your special day, but throwing a tantrum is not going to do anything. It is important to reel in your inner Bridezilla no matter what.
How You React Is What Matters
It is impossible for us to control every single possible thing. The only thing that you can manage is how you react to these unexpected developments. You should make the most out of it and accept that there is nothing else that you can do about it. This couple knows all about that better than most people do.
Fate Had Something Up Its Sleeve
When they talked to People magazine, Zac said, “God had a plan, and everything fell into place.” It is good that he believed in this. If this were not the case, a certain person would not have lived past the day of the wedding. Are you ready to hear what happened on the big day?
Headed Towards Disaster
The guests were delighted when Zac and Cindy finally exchanged their vows. The husband and wife had been posing for photos and having a blast with their loved ones at Orange Beach, Alabama on August 2, 2018. All of a sudden, a woman directed their attention to a teenager called Jamel Robinson. But why?
She Had An Order For Him
It was clear that the 18-year-old boy had been terrified as he struggled in the water. Zac could tell this even though Robinson was far away. Cindy then looked at her new husband and told him, “Go get him.” This was the push that Zac needed to get into the water and save a life!
To The Rescue
Zac Edwards was a ripped marine science technician at the Coast Guard. He peeled off his shirt and went straight into the water. To his surprise, he found two other teens. The kids wanted to help rescue Robinson, which was fairly admirable. However, this turn of events did not make Zac feel better at all.
They Tried To Help Him
How come his heart sank upon seeing the two teenagers? “I didn’t want it to turn into a multiple person rescue,” he shared with People. And so, he asked to borrow one of their boogie boards instead. After that, Zac instructed the boys to get out of the water and to go to the shore.
He Could Not Breathe
Zac made his way towards Robinson, who had been yelling, “I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe!” It was clear that the young man was starting to feel desperate and helpless. These things do not do anything to alleviate the situation. In fact, they tend to make things worse and even more complicated instead.
A New Problem Blindsided Him
He grabbed the young man by the wrist and pushed him onto the boogie board. After that, Zac started to push them back to the shore. However, the currents became stronger as they were halfway there. At this point, even his physical prowess was not enough for them to break free. So, what now?
Help Finally Arrived
The two of them tried to hang on until the arrival of the Orange Beach Surf Rescue and the Orange Beach Fire Department. The authorities then retrieved Robinson and Zac from the water with the help of a jet ski. However, the groom could not help but be worried about his wife…
He Did Not Want To Ruin Her Dress
“My wife was running out into the water as I was getting out, and I got a nosebleed from bouncing on the sled,” he shared with People. The moment that he saw his new wife, Zac told Cindy to stay away from him. After all, he did not want to mess up her dress.
Things Could Have Been Much Worse
It did not dawn on him right away that he had just saved the life of the young man. Who knows what could have happened for everyone in the story otherwise? It was a special day for the couple, but we are glad that they did not hesitate to pull the plug on it if it meant saving the lives of other people.
Right Place At The Right Time
Zac and Cindy went to a pastor, who told them to get married one day later than planned. We are glad that they did not listen to him. After all, things would have been very different had they done that. For one thing, he would not have been there to save Robinson if that had been the case!
He Did Not Give Up
The currents might have been strong, but Zac did not think of letting go even once. He does not regret this at all. “I wasn’t going to let him drown on my wedding day in front of my wife and kids while I’m able to do something,” he said. We are glad to hear that there are people like him out there!
He Had To Stay Alive
Zac was very determined to remain alive. After all, he is the father of six kids! He had three of those lovely children with Cindy. It was his top priority to make it back to the family. We are glad that things worked out in his favor in the end. If not, we would not have this story to tell.
Grateful For All His Help
On the other hand, Robinson was able to recuperate and head back home as well. There is no need to worry. The young man is doing all right. He sent a video message to Good Morning America. It was a message of gratitude to Zac for doing such an amazing thing for a stranger.
No One Expected It
Let us not forget that the daring rescue happened on the day of his wedding! Zac says that he has been surrounded by support and love since then. He is lucky that nothing bad happened to anyone involved in the story. We all know that it was very possible for things to have gone wrong.
One Hell Of A Story
Thanks to his selfless act, he managed to save someone on his big day. We are sure that his children take pride in him for what he did. On top of that, it must be a very fun story to tell your friends. If you want an unforgettable wedding, it is hard to beat a story like this one!
When Bad Things Come Up
It is not rare to hear about brides micro-managing their big day. There are certain women who want to plan every single possible detail about their wedding. They do this in the hopes of ensuring that it all goes smoothly. Even so, there are times when you simply can’t prevent bad things from happening.
Even The Smallest Details
No one has the power to control every single thing. However, it is still worth planning as much as you could. It takes a lot of work to pull off a wedding! Let us not forget that even the smallest details have the ability to make or break the ceremony. We hope that you are not unlucky enough to know that.
Show Them Your Gratitude
As a tip, it is worth expressing your gratitude to wedding planners, vendors, and your loved ones. You should do the same thing to your partner as well! This way, you can ensure that everyone knows you appreciate their hard work and presence on the day of the wedding. It is not hard to say thanks!
You Should Make Time For These Things
We know that not everyone has the time to plan the ideal wedding. Despite this, we hope that you find enough time for a hair and makeup session before the wedding. Trust us, it is worth it. You know what, you might as well make time for engagement photos and a bridal shower as well!
Family Is What Matters The Most
But in the end, the presence of your loved ones is what makes a wedding so special. It is not always easy to be around family, so you should defuse tension as much as possible. You can do this by taking a good look at seats before the day of the wedding. Keep certain people away from each other!
Bring The Right Attitude With You
The truth is that so many things rely on the attitude that you take. At times, it is not possible to avoid things from going wrong. So, what do you do when life throws you a wrench? If that ever happens, we hope that you will have the presence of mind to keep your cool and do what you have to do!
